This post comes with quite possibly the greatest sadness in my 6+ years of music-blogging. Award-winning Gospel singer, Kefee, has passed away. The singer reportedly slumped while on a flight to the U.S late last month and fell into a coma. Since then, family, friends and well-wishers had been praying for her swift recovery, but… I’m afraid the worst has happened.
It’s insane to think I was just having a chat with Kefee a couple of weeks ago, right before my birthday, about her new single “Dem Go Talk” and the video which we were planning to premiere not long afterwards. And then… news of her being in a coma… now this.
Kefee’s death literally hits too close to home as I grew up knowing her like a big sister back in Sapele, Delta State. From watching her sing in church to being in the studio while she recorded some songs, she’s been more or less family to me since I was a young lad. I remember giving her a call back in 2011 to come perform at the notjustOk Concert. All I said was “Sist, abeg come support us for our concert“. Her response; “Ovie, no wahala. You be my brother. Na small tin“. And then she came through with her LIVE band. And performed. All this without giving her a kobo. What a babe!

Rest In Perfect Peace, Irikefe “Kefee” Obareki Don-Momoh. I’ll miss you dearly.

PS: In contrast to all earlier rumors and stories in circulation, I do state that Kefee wasn’t 6 months pregnant and neither did she have pre-eclampsia.
